Who am I? Some background information.
Who am I?
My name is Dennis Martin and I have spent the last 30 years working as an independent consultant, facilitator and coach helping thousands of people, and hundreds of businesses, to release and realise more of their potential.
Some brief background information about "Who am I?":
I started my working life as a machine operator in a textile mill in Yorkshire, where I was born and bred. I studied textile technology to Degree Level and progressed through supervisory and production management roles to become a Training Officer before joining a firm of consultants helping to establish Industrial Training Boards for many industries in the U.K. and for the National Training Authority of Ireland. After a period in the service industry as H.R. and Management Development Managers, and training at Bath University and The National Institute of Industrial Psychology, I moved to Dublin and established my own small consultancy company. As an independent consultant and facilitator I have worked at all organisational levels in many industries and countries, helping people and businesses to learn, develop their talents and manage change using the self improvement techniques and skills outlined on this site. In 2004, I won a U.K. National Training Award in partnership with one of my clients, Lubrizol Ltd.
Who am I?
I am married to Brigid (from Tipperary) and I have two sons (Antony and Richard), six grandchildren (Lyndsay, Rachel, David, Lorna, Marianne and Juliet), two cats (Millie and Sally) and three fish (fish one, fish two and fish three). I am a lifelong supporter and sponsor of Halifax Rugby League club - don't ask - and we live in West Yorkshire, U.K. And we also sponsor the four greatest brass bands in the world (all from Yorkshire, of course) - Black Dyke Band; Brighouse & Raistrick Band; Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band; and Skelmanthorpe Band.
How and why did I develop this site?
Well, for a long time I had wanted to share the business-tested secrets of success that I had been fortunate to learn, and use in my business, with a much wider audience. WHY? - because of my beliefs that we waste massive amounts of human potential unnecessarily. As the famous American philosopher, Henry David Thoreau, said, "most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them". William James said, "compared to what we ought to be, we are only half awake. Our fires are dampened, our drafts are checked, we are making use of only a small part of our mental and physical resources".
And I believe, having seen the brilliant returns on investing in self improvement (for people and for businesses), that anyone can release and realise more of their potential if they just know how to go about it. Well, I do know how to go about it, having earned my living doing so for over 30 years. Also, in starting up and successfully running my own small international consultancy business, I have made good use of all that you will learn from this site and my e-books.
Who am I? - someone who KNOWS that this has worked for me, and who believes that it will work for you.
Who am I? - someone who is passionate about helping people to help themselves sing their song and achieve massive benefits for them and others.
The development of the web, of course, has now made it possible to share what I have learned, and proved to work, with you and many, many others. Great,.......but, there's a problem......
I'm not very computer savvy.........
However, the final bit of the picture fell into place when I came across the web site of Site Build It. Its web site building programme is amazing and does much more than it says on the tin. They have helped me, in easy steps, develop this on-line business and realise my dream of sharing great self improvement knowledge and techniques. If your self improvement plans include developing a web business, you should check out the Site Build It programme and services (just click the link above).
Why am I so confident about self improvement?
I know, from personal experience and from helping thousands of people in all walks of life, that the well tried and tested tools and techniques that companies use to help people succeed will work for you in your personal life. This is because you too are running “a business” - a personal business (i.e. yourself, your life and your relationships with others). What differentiates this site from other self help sites is its focus on bringing business-tested self improvement techniques for application by individuals - in this case, you.
Who am I? - someone who will help you to create an opportunity for yourself to learn how to improve your performance in your “personal business” by applying these techniques to managing your life (for example: how to improve and make beneficial changes in your health, wealth, relationships, performance, personal growth and self management). I have distilled out and collected together for you the key self help techniques that will enable you to choose how you will achieve effective self improvement.
My ebook, and this site, are designed to fit you (rather than you having to fit them).
Who am I? someone who has designed this site to avoid the common criticisms that are often made of self help programmes, especially: * they make unrealistic promises (e.g. change your life in 3 minutes) * they have one model and expect everything to fit with it and to be solved by it * they assume that everything is within your control * they offer easy and simplistic solutions that tell you what to do (even though they know nothing about you and your circumstances, do they?) * they rarely help you with what can be the difficult tasks of changing habits and delivering success in practice.
CAN YOU REALLY AFFORD TO WASTE ANY MORE OF YOUR TOMORROWS? Why bother with self improvement? You could think of it like this: How old are you? Now, divide your age by five. Take your answer (to the nearest whole number) and add it to your age. Multiply that number by 3. Now put two zeros at the end of that number. The number you now have is a rough and conservative estimate of how many yesterdays you have had - each one having been an opportunity to have made today a better tomorrow.
Put another way, what have you done today that will create a better tomorrow for you tomorrow? Yesterday did you choose to seize or waste the opportunity to make today a better tomorrow? Once today’s opportunity is gone, it is gone for ever. How many more tomorrows are you willing to waste? Choose self improvement everyday.
Who am I? - someone who did just that and who continues to do so.
Hopefully, now you know a bit more about, "Who am I?"
