Visualisation of your goals as if already achieved will programme your unconscious mind for success
Visualisation is largely a right brain thinking process that programmes your unconscious mind for success in achieving your self improvement goals.
As the name suggests, it involves using images (rather than just words, written or spoken).
Some people describe themselves as not being visual in their thinking, unable to see the images or pictures and thinking in words instead. What really helps here is some practice at visualisation to develop the skills.
In addition, to visualise effectively will require you to:
* be relaxed - physically and mentally * use emotion - i.e. FEEL what success would be like
* be associated with your images - i.e. see the scene / images in your mind as if you were really there
* imagine your goals as if already achieved
How do you do it?
There's no formula here, whatever works for you is fine.
However, here are some visualisation guidelines based on experience: * be clear what you want to visualise. For example, you may want to visualise success in achieving your self improvement goal or the future you desire or you may want to imagine your successful behaviour at a meeting or....whatever. You will need to imagine what success looks like, feels like, sounds like etc.
* choose an appropriate time and place so that you can relax and use your imagination without interruption. On your way into sleep is usually a very good time and place because your brain will have slowed to a theta state and you will be as close as you're likely to get to your unconscious mind. This is also a good time to use self hypnosis and programme yourself for success.
* relax - mentally and physically, using diaphragm breathing and calming images (e.g. a sanctuary)
* paint a picture in your mind of yourself having achieved your goal or whatever it is you wish to visualise. The key here is to: * make your picture positive - avoid images that carry messages of “trying” or “doing your best”. Use positive thinking and visualisation to experience doing whatever it is you want to do exceptionally well. And, in your mind, be there doing it. See what you would see. Hear what you would hear. Smell what you would smell. Touch and taste what you would if you were there really doing it
* make your images in the present, as if being done now - avoid pictures that convey the message that what you want may get done at some time in the future. Imagine it as if already achieved (not as a wished for, “maybe” or “someday”)
* focus on what you do want and not on what you don’t want. Avoid images such as, “not feeling bad about being controlled by others” or of “not being victimised by other people”. In both of these examples you are focusing on what you don’t want. Instead, focus on what you do want. Use your imagination to create images of feeling great at being in control; of achieving your goals; of having fun; and of other people laughing and congratulating you on taking the initiative and on your success.
To be able to visualise your success will programme your unconscious mind to ensure that you achieve your goals
